8 First Trimester Outfits For Going Out (That Actually Look Cute)

Okay so first trimester fashion is a weird little in-between zone.

You’re not showing yet, but nothing fits right either. Your jeans feel tight even though your bump isn’t really “there” yet. Bloating is real.

Comfort matters more than ever, but you still want to look put together when you leave the house.

I got you.

In this guide, I shared with you 8 first trimester outfit ideas that work for date nights, brunch, girls’ night, or just running errands and feeling cute doing it.

1. The Wrap Dress

A wrap dress is basically the first trimester MVP. It ties at the waist so you control how snug it feels. Some days you’ll want it looser, some days tighter.

Either way it looks intentional and stylish, not like you’re hiding anything.

Go for a knee-length wrap dress in a solid color or small print.

Add sandals or block heels if you’re going somewhere nice.

2. High-Waisted Jeans With A Bodysuit

This one is a classic for a reason. High-waisted jeans sit above the bloat, and a bodysuit tucks in without bunching up like a regular shirt would.

No mid-shirt bunch, no readjusting all night.

Pair it with a cropped jacket or cardigan and some cute flats or sneakers.

This look works for casual dinners, coffee dates, even a low-key night out.

3. Flowy Midi Skirt And Fitted Top

Midi skirts are so forgiving right now. They skim over your stomach instead of clinging to it, so bloating isn’t front and center.

Pair a flowy skirt with something more fitted on top, like a tank or a simple tee, so you don’t look shapeless from head to toe.

This combo works for brunch, a wedding shower, or dinner with friends.

Add some gold jewelry and you’re done.

4. Oversized Blazer Over Basically Anything

An oversized blazer is a cheat code. Throw it over a tank top and leggings and suddenly you look like you tried.

It hides bloat, adds structure, and honestly makes any outfit look 10 times more put together.

Wear it open with jeans and a plain tee underneath, or belt it for more shape.

This is great for work outings, dinner, or even a casual date.

5. Matching Two-Piece Set

Matching sets are having a moment and honestly they’re perfect for pregnancy too.

No guessing if your top and bottom go together, no waistband digging in because everything’s made to be worn together and usually has some stretch.

Look for sets in soft knit fabric or linen blends.

They breathe well, they’re comfy, and they photograph really nicely too if you’re the type to post your outfit.

6. Slip Dress With A Denim Jacket

A slip dress feels fancy without trying too hard. The silky fabric doesn’t cling, so it’s actually one of the more forgiving fabrics for a bloated first trimester belly.

Throw a denim jacket over it to make it more casual and less “going to a wedding.”

This is a great date night look or a going-out-with-friends look.

Add some sneakers to dress it down or heeled sandals to dress it up.

7. Trench Coat With Leggings

If it’s chilly out, a trench coat is your best friend. It has structure on the outside but you can wear the comfiest leggings underneath and nobody will know.

Add an oversized sweater under the trench and some boots and you’ve got a whole look.

This one is great for fall or spring outings when you need a layer but don’t want to commit to real pants.

8. Denim On Denim

Double denim looks intentional and cool, and it’s actually really comfortable if you pick the right pieces.

Go for a relaxed denim jacket or jacket over a stretchy denim skirt or slightly looser jeans.

The key is not making both pieces tight.

Add a plain white tee or tank underneath and some white sneakers.

This look is casual but still feels like an outfit, not just clothes I put on.

A Few Quick Tips Before You Go

Stretchy waistbands are your friend. Anything with an elastic or drawstring waist is going to feel so much better than a button fly right now.

Even if the outfit doesn’t look like it has stretch, brands make a ton of “jeggings” style denim that looks like regular jeans but moves with you.

Fabric matters more than you think. Look for knits, jersey, linen, and other fabrics with a little give. Stiff fabrics that don’t stretch are going to feel uncomfortable fast, especially by the end of the night.

Layering hides a multitude of bloat. A cardigan, jacket, or kimono over any outfit gives you the option to cover up if you’re feeling extra puffy that day, or open it up if you’re feeling good. Options are everything in the first trimester.

Shoes should be comfortable, period. I know heels feel like part of “going out,” but even a small block heel is more stable than stilettos, and your center of balance is already starting to shift a little. Save the cute sandals or sneakers for now and bring back the heels later if you want.

Dark colors and prints hide a lot. If you’re feeling self-conscious about bloating, darker colors and busier prints do a great job of camouflaging anything you don’t want to be the focus. Solid light colors tend to show every curve and line, so keep that in mind for photos.

The Bottom Line

First trimester dressing is really about comfort first, style second, but you don’t have to sacrifice either one.

All eight of these looks are things you probably already have some pieces for, or can find pretty easily at stores you already shop at.

Target, Old Navy, and Amazon all have great affordable options if you want to search around before buying anything maternity-specific.

The best part is none of these outfits scream “maternity wear.” They’re just cute, comfortable clothes that happen to work really well for where your body is right now.

Save a few of these searches on Instagram, build yourself a little mood board, and go feel cute at dinner this weekend. You deserve it.
